"Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag" by Wallace Berman
Today I finally saw the Pacific Standard Time at The Getty Museum, specifically the "Crosscurrents in L.A. Painting and Sculpture, 1950-1970" and I quite enjoyed it. And low an behold, they had collage and assemblage art:
"They made lyrical works that drew on folk and vernacular traditions, mysticism, chance, language games and the improvisations of jazz."
This one bye Berman in particular caught my eye, love it’s top-heavy composition and use of negative space. There is much more as well, including the imfamous Ruscha "The Los Angeles County Museum on Fire" which it totally worth it in person. So if your a Cali collagist, this show is well worth the tram ride up the hill.
